Lehenga Choli is a traditional Indian wear for Women. It is also known by the name of ghagra choli or chaniya choli. Off all the ethnic Indian women attires, the most eye-catching one is the lengha choli. It is a two part garment, The Lower one is called the Lehenga and the Top one is called the Choli.
The Lehenga-Choli is worn across the Indian Subcontinent. In the modern times the Designer Lehenga Cholis are used as Bridal Garments. Lehenga is the modern version which is designed and improved to cater to the modern women. It is the preferred choice in modern day weddings, sangeet celebrations, festivals.
Lehenga Choli is divided in three parts:
- The Top: Choli
- The Bottom: Lehenga
- The Dupatta
The Top: Choli/Blouse
The choli or blouse is a tightly fitted piece of clothing around the waist. It could be short, or long, or extended below the waist in a loose blouse trend. It can also be in the kurti style with mirror work and a backless tie-up string trend.
A Lehenga on the other hand is not something that is used as a daily-wear. It is modernized version of ghagra and is worn on special occasions and festivals. If you take any Indian wear brand, they usually have lehengas and usually never termed as ghagras. Lehengas look modern and are designed to accentuate the shape of women and look grand.
The third and the very important part of this dress is the dupatta. Although it is not a compulsory part of the Lehenga Choli but most ladies wear a dupatta with a Lehenga Choli. It is used to cover the head for decency and modesty but nowadays it is used a fashion statement.
